Hey, Im pretty sure I read this fic on ao3, but it could have been ff.net too. It was 8th year but only Harry went back, both Ron and Hermione went straight to working at the ministry. They might have either taken their NEWTs early or just been offered jobs.
The only specific scene I remember is Ron and Hermione finally coming to visit him at Hogwarts - they’d been making excuses or had been too busy before - and Harry noticing how different and ‘mature’ they were compared to him, and that working at the ministry had changed them. It is drarry, I think Harry starts confiding in Draco because he’s growing apart from his friends and they eventually end up together. It wasn’t a super long fic, possibly 30-40k? Maybe shorter
