“Seven Sacks Full of Mercy Petitions,” Toronto Star. June 28, 1911. Page 03. --- Sir Allen Aylesworth Promises Careful and Serious Consideration. ---- WOMAN STILL IN COURT ---- Special to The Star. Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., June 28. - The last hope that Angelina Neopolitana, under sentence of death here, will know her fate before the delivery of her child, was shattered this morning by a message from the Minister of justice, who though he stated that the case would receive his ‘careful and anxious’ consideration, also said that the case could not be investigated for some time yet, as there were several capital cases for his consideration where the date of execution was set for dates prior to August 9th, the day on which Mrs. Neopolitana is to hang.
The petitions are having their effect, for the Minister states in his letter to Attorney McFadden that seven sacks of mail have already been delivered at the department and that every mail brought hundreds more petitions.
It is likely that the woman will be removed to the General Hospital in the early part of next week.
