I think Akane’s presence would already have Jiraiya on his best behavior / make him more serious from the start and less prone to any over the top perverted antics.

I mean he’s aware of the threat of the akatsuki and their major players, his sensei is a bit disgraced among those who know bc of everything with danzo, shit is looking bad enough that Tsunade agreed to take the hat, and orochimaru is killed during the chunin exams. Shit might be fluffy for Akane and Co, but only because we know how much worse it could have been if allowed to fester longer. To everyone else, major shit is constantly going down without an endpoint in sight and those are grim prospects.

And it’s not a sudden change in him either. Ever since Akane has been in the past, the importance of Jiraiya staying on the ball with his information has only grown in importance.

There’s a time for playing up perverted personas and now is not it.

With that in mind, I vry badly want to characterize him as an actually harmless pervert that mostly just giggles over his rough drafts and leers at women who are willing to play ball and shoot innuendos right back at him

But also him being like that here but not in Akane’s time is interesting

Mostly bc his reactions give some people the wrong idea about what exactly has happened to him in the past

When kakashi sees him go from relaxed to watchful whenever he’s around the kids and snap at him for his more risqué comments, he’s obviously not assuming “once upon a time Akane used to turn into a naked girl to get training from Jiraiya and only realized how fucked that was when confronted with himself at that age and couldn’t dream of doing or saying anything weird like Jiraiya did” it’s more like “Akane was born into service in root, worked as an infiltrator, and has a very beautiful face.”

They prob talk about it, and as much as it kills Akane to not be able to correct some things he’s too much of a shinobi to completely debunk useful assumptions. but who knows if Akane and Jiraiya ever talk. Maybe after the convo with Kakashi.

Maybe Jiraiya pulls Kakashi aside and is like wtf is up with that he knows I wouldn’t do anything right? And Kakashi can’t exactly say yes of course he does cuz well…look. So he talks to Akane gets some of the info and Akane goes to see Jiraiya to talk to him about it much more vaguely

(Naruto has a far better relationship with Jiraiya than Akane ever did and that fucking hurts more than he can ever say. This version of him already had two teammates that cared and stayed loyal to him and two sensei willing to do anything for him—three if you count iruka. But Jiraiya too…god it’s just not fair.)

reading fics where derek is dead is such a haunting and jarring experience because to me that man is invincible and like sure in my head he's a sweetheart deep down but he's still invincible in ways i can't describe and so when people kill derek in their fics it's an instantly chills all over your body experience and you're already in a reality where the worst has happened and so anything that happens in the fic from then on is a horror show and everything has the power to kill you. Stiles on the other hand. Put that man in a blender
