To Secure Our Place | DE!Sybill & Evan | AU
Sybill had always been pragmatic, organized, and paranoid.
She’d known about The Order of the Phoenix and Death Eaters before most people her own age had even heard of Voldemort. Throughout Hogwarts she’d tried neutrality- befriended folks who belonged to the light and the dark in equal measure, and even those whose glow was somewhat more gray and indistinct. In the end, she’d decided she was simply a woman with too many strong opinions to sit down and be quiet.
There was a future where everyone respected her and her gift, she’d seen it. She could craft it. So what if a few faceless muggleborns had to die- they’d never be able to understand Sybill. Just like her muggle mother, so terrified of the gift that she’d claimed her daughter was the devil and tried to kill her! If donning a mask and cloak and sporting a strange mark on her arm was the way to this world where she could be herself, then so be it.
The idea of getting too familiar with any of the other group members hadn’t exactly appealed at first, but she’d warmed to them slowly and found herself a strange little family. Not all of them knew what she was truly capable of, but there were people she had trusted with her secret.
Namely, Evan Rosier. Voldemort had seen fit to pair the two of them on quiet a lot of missions- her foresight and his brutality made them a force to be reckoned with.
It wouldn’t have been impossible to resist developing warm feelings for him. He had plenty of flaws. He drank too much, he was prone to violence, he could be cold and withdrawn. He was charming, loyal, sharp tongued... And bloody gorgeous.
She’d started bringing him a flask of tea as well as one for herself, and he’d taken to always keeping that particular butterfly knife she liked on hand for her use. They held hands if they were running from trouble. Sometimes, if he walked her home after they’d both had a few too many drinks, they’d kiss in the doorway. A few days ago they’d sat on her sofa planning this mission and he’d put an arm around her. Somehow, it had ended with them making out against her hideous floral cushions.
Sybill blinked, pushing the memory and the warmth it brought rising to her cheeks far far away. Luckily her distraction hadn’t caused them any problems, and hopefully Evan hadn’t even spotted it. “That’s his assistant.” She nodded to the woman who was leaving The Ministry building- the two of them weren’t in disguise yet, just loitering in the shadows. She sipped her tea then slipped the flask back into her bag. “You ready to do this?”
