Hokay, so my little white/silver/black stripey boy cat who is all of 8 lbs and looks like a kitten for all that he is 2 years old now has caught a mouse. It came in through the ducts, got in too far and got stuck, then fell down into the fireplace and crawled out of it via faulty constructed fireplace facing.

Chase (the cat in question) caught it, picked it up, trotted around with it and let it go to watch it crawl away, then caught it again, leading the other four cats around - and my mum, who was trying to get the mouse away from him - for 15 minutes. Then mum finally put a mug over it, used a piece of paper to gently, slowly, cover the top of the mug (that was on the floor), and put the small mouse into a punch bowl.

It appears to be young, but weaned, as it is eating for itself. We have some birdseed that we've given it, and a slice of apple and a well-soaked piece of cracker for moisture. I've just now put a toilet paper tube in the bowl for a hidey-place and stuffed one end with some tissue for warmth. The bowl is covered with a jacket to keep in heat and keep the cats away. It also makes it nice and dark for the mousey - whom we think is female, because it does not appear to have balls.

Hopefully we'll be able to release it soon, once the shock has worn off.
