Storm, our new rescued black Silkie rooster. He has such a good personality, very gentle and loves to be handled. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to jump up to a perch or forage for bugs. Based on his behaviors, he probably grew up in a cage or small coop, with limited opportunity to roam. We will give him two weeks by himself (to ensure he isn't bring disease into our flock) before letting him interact with the rest of our chickens. If you don't need or want eggs, rescuing a rooster can be a great way to get a unique pet.

Meet newest rescued rooster Thor! Panicked and scared, Thor was found in the middle of a road suffering heat exhaustion. He is a peeper rooster....the industry calls them broilers. Thor would have been one of the 9 billion chickens slaughtered for their flesh. Lucky for him, he's now a resident of Animal Place and enjoying life. Amazing volunteer Sue bought Thor a treat ball to hold in lettuce and serve as enrichment while Thor is on his quarantine. Thor was unsure of what to do with the treat ball when it was hung up, so we tried it out on the ground so he could learn how to use it. His feather loss is from molting, a natural process. He has an infection in his foot, caused by bearing too much weight.
