Hey guys! I'm doing a research assignment on how transphobia can affect the systemic oppression of other minorities in society and i'd really appreciate if you can fill in this form!
Your research survey was a lot of fun! Do you plan to post more about this research assignment?
I don't plan on it, not the actual assignment atleast. This assignment lasts through the entire semester and isn't something I'm all that up for sharing, not right now atleast. Maybe when I finish it I'll change my mind, but it's going to have a heavy focus on misrepresentation of DID, so it's not going to be all that fun to read,,,, probably, unless y'all like reading research
One of the questions, the one that asks about representation people would like to see more of, is mostly a questions for myself. I can use the answeres in the paper, but I always want to take what I can from that section to write my own characters with DID without basing them purely off my own system
I might post thoughts here and there as I get more research done, though. I can also share the results of the survey itself after I close it, if that's something y'all would be interested in 👀
I need help with a research paper!!!!
We were told to pick one of the available topics that we don’t know much about. So I have to do a project on HIV/AIDS and actually interview someone who has this diagnosis. Well unfortunately, I don’t know anyone who has this or had a family member. There’s 10 short of questions and their not really personal questions. It’s just for me to get an understanding of the topic. You don’t even have to talk to me on the phone or through zoom, I can send you the questions and you answer them and send it back. It’s completely anonymous and will only be shared in my social work class about populations at risk. I’ve asked every where and no one has responded so hopefully this might work. I’m about to graduate in May with my BSW so I have to do well on this project.
Research Assignments || Books 📚
Read books. I’m constantly receiving the same feedback on my High Distinction assignments: ‘your use of books really enhanced your assignment.’ Any student can use an online journal or source, but if you’re going to take one tip one from me, it should be that using books makes you stand out.
The library is not just there to be a nice quiet place to study. It’s full of resources that are of a different nature to articles, which, when used in conjunction with those other sources, are perfect to round out any research assignment. The law library has books on everything, I promise you you’ll find one that can help with your assignment.
Take my advice. Go to the library. Read books.
Karen Jerzyk
Karen Jerzyk photographs consist of surrealist imagery that utilize bright and saturated colors in some shape or form. This is emphasized with the imagery she uses, some implicating a hyperpop gory visage of a girl’s intestine strung about or story book life imagery of branches overtaking the setting with fantastical mythical looking character. A majority of the time, these pictures have a single dominant color that takes up a majority of the piece with hints of different colors. Overall, her pieces have another worldly and dream like look and feel to them, especially with her use of old and discarded objects as props and using abandoned places as a setting and modifying it to a degree to fit their image. With that, anyone can interpret different meanings behind the pieces, like a dream. This can be seen with her color series ware she makes an art piece room by making it a particular color and creating a wide range of scenarios that make each piece different from one another. Even when seen her “Color” series ware one color is the emphasis of the piece, the themes are different but again, giving a sense of whimsy with the odd imagery.
Then her other series, like the “We are All Ghost” is a series of spooky pictures of abandoned or old houses with a bed sheet ghost in front of it. With the child like costume and the spooky setting, she states how they brought back feelings of childlike wonder with the cute novelty of a well-known and simple costume in these settings. Personally, it makes me think of trick or treating as a kid on a fogy Halloween night.
Her older art was more traditional with photography of model poses and was more realistic. This changed with her shift in mindset after the loss of her father. With that, she used photography to visually explore her thoughts feelings. A story or situation is implied with in each piece; however, the main thing people take away from looking at their piece is the emotions they draw out of viewers. Personally, her work again reminds me of a dream like state but not just in a surrealist form, but what it feels like to walk around in a dream and what it is like to remember your dream after the fact, including the emotions and thoughts you felt. I believe it is also her use of abstract figures of creatures and almost cartoony pop art looking figures.
I first saw Karen Jerzyk’s work on the cover of Artscope magazine and it reminded me of a Sandy Skogland photograph, specifically, Revenge O
