march 21, 2023 - tuesday week 3

tuesday is my busiest day because all of my classes and all of my extracurriculars meet, but i think i've got everything taken care of so i can go to sleep right when i get back to the room!

i did some annotations on the research paper that i'm summarizing for research rotation, and we had a lecture on how to properly do a research proposal. it sounded really daunting but i'm kind of excited to work more on what i think i want to do for the independent research section of the class!

i also transferred my anatomy notes. we finished our first section (basics of animal form and function) yesterday and started our animal nutrition unit! it's a really interesting class, and iirc we're actually starting with wet labs tomorrow!

march 16, 2023 - thursday week 2

i have a quiz on the 20 canonical amino acids tomorrow, so i've been working some more on getting those memorized! i can draw almost all the structures from the name but i can't remember all the pKas of the sidechains 🙏 wish me luck!!

today, i stopped by the research lab to see if our quantum dots had formed, but no such luck. we're leaving the solutions in the oven for another day, so we'll see if we get results from that! hoping for the best so that we don't have to use all our sodium tungstate dihydrate before getting anything.

i also started rereading vicious by v.e. schwab and am more than 200 pages in... needless to say, i am enjoying it thoroughly.

march 24, 2023 - friday week 3

sorry for the late post! almost a third done with the quarter already! did a literature summary for research and learned some more carbohydrate stuff in biochemistry. we had a quiz today which was definitely... something. there was a prospective student there so i hope we didn't scare him off! x)

this weekend, i'll be looking at the info for a conference i'm going to next week and working out my schedule while i'm there. i'll hopefully also be applying for jobs with my new and improved resume! i have to submit a resume and cover letter (and a postmortem about the writing process) on sunday, and i've got most of the hard work done. i think i'm in a good place so far!

i also got my ears pierced today! i got my second lobe piercings. i love them and i'm really excited to be able to switch them out and make lots of fun combinations of earrings.

april 7, 2023 - friday week 5

just submitted my research proposal so it's officially SPRING BREAK!! it was interesting to work on (although i should've started earlier) and i'm looking forward to performing my research :)

this morning i had a biochemistry quiz that i feel pretty good about. i also got my notion guide draft peer reviewed today which was helpful to show me some of my blind spots! i'm at home for the next week, and will hopefully be continuing my streak of productivity throughout while still relaxing. can't wait to get enough sleep every night! x)

april 3, 2023 - monday week 5

happy monday! had a test today in anatomy, and i feel pretty good about it. also made up a quiz i missed last week and finally met with the bio department head to make sure my degree plan was sound! only had to move one thing around - a lot of advanced bio classes move around from year to year, unfortunately, but i'll get all the credit i need somehow :)

i'm going to be writing a tutorial to using notion as a college student for my techcomm class, and i'm really looking forward to it! i'll probably post it on here when i'm done with it, so look forward to that in a few weeks ^_^

i made a research progress presentation as well! and i was productive in other ways, which is always nice! still have a few things to check off my to do list but i'm feeling good about today! our spring break is next week so i just have to finish strong for now

may 3, 2023 - wednesday week 8

today in anatomy lab, we dissected a fetal pig and a sheep pluck (heart, lungs, and trachea), and there was a cow heart for us to look at. i knew that the ventricles had thick walls, but you really don't appreciate HOW thick until you can see one in cross section. it was really interesting!

in research, we were finally able to do our microwave reaction to get tungsten quantum dots since our microwave was fixed. we were having some problems with the uv-vis, so here's hoping that clears up a bit by next week!

i can't believe it's already close to the end of the quarter and the school year! time flies etc etc

march 14, 2023 - tuesday week 2

finally transferred (almost) all of my bio notes into my notion! i love arranging stuff in there and finding all the appropriate figures and everything. that's one thing i really enjoyed when i took genetics. i had a bio quiz today that i think went well, and we talked about amino acids at length in biochem.

my potions and poisons class doesn't have any pre reqs, so a lot of non-chem/non-chem related majors are in it and so we're going over a lot of really basic basics right now... obviously no judgment to people that don't know chemistry but it's just funny to me to be in a class that's explaining what a carbohydrate is.

i'm also reading a couple articles for research! i'm going to be working on tungsten oxide (WO3) and the best way to maximize its output and efficiency with regards to electrochromics. i don't know a lot about electrochemistry so i'm really looking forward to learning more!

april 26, 2023 - wednesday week 7

happy birthday to me! :) i'm 20 today!

look at this gorgeous nanowire solution! we didn't make it, it's from sigma aldrich, but we can still appreciate it LOL. today after some uv spectra we realized that we might have accidentally made silver nanoPARTICLES and not nanoWIRES.......... oops. but our quantum dots are looking good! we're also 3d printing some spacers to make the actual electrochromic device, so i had to learn a bit of blender today. lots of fun!

my gf and i went to dinner which was nice, even if i may have pushed off studying a bit... always time to catch up later though! i got my schedule for fall term worked out and a couple meetings scheduled at least.
