There are very few things as pathetic right now as libs falling for the “I’m 55, a lifelong republican, but now I’m voting for the democrat” song and dance.

For sure, democrats haven’t been spotless over the last 60-70 years (or ever), but that self-promoting dipshit was, in effect, 100% on board with his party’s ultra-reactionary platform (deliberate suppression of democracy, defunding public services, killing unions, anti-abortion policy, general racism, etc.) for literally decades. So, what *actually* got him to switch loyalties from the neofascists to the bargain bin republicans who don’t know how to win and refuse to learn was that Trump’s brand--a bombastic, unambiguous advertisement and endorsement of the GOP’s reactionary core--ruined his party’s (and therefore his own) claim to plausible deniability. He didn’t switch because he had a come-to-Jesus moment, he switched because his cover got blown and the other side has become close enough to what he’s used to that he didn’t mind.

And if anything is indicated by the engagement that these public disavowal announcements get online, it’s that rank-and-file democrats, libs, resisters, w/e, are just like “Ah yes, welcome to the team, friend. Don’t worry, we won’t vet you”.
