I was just asked why I didn’t wear a red shirt today since the president our of organization asked all of us to do so in the vein of team spirit. Rather than explain that I didn’t even open my email inbox yesterday because I just couldn’t deal with it at the time, I told my boss:

“In my experience, the red shirts are the first ones to die. I’m not yet done with this life.”

He laughed and said that we only had to worry about that if we had some kind of away party to go ashore. I looked at him and said, “What do you call that meet’n’greet you’re asking me to go to?” 

I wish I had a picture of his face when I said that.
