How do insects breathe? | Cómo respiran los insectos?
(First of all, not all insects have this respiratory system and other animals that are not insects have it)
Insects don’t possess a nose, but they do have are small holes throughout their body called spiracles ( 8 pairs usually). Inside the body, they present a complex network of tubes called tracheae, responsible for transporting oxygen to the rest of the body.

The spiracles have valves controlled by muscles, so the insects can open and close them on command. These holes have hairs to filter out dust as the air penetrates the body.

The tracheae system ramifies in smaller conduits called tracheoles, in which cells provide a moist interface for the exchange of gasses between the body and the air. When the air enters the spiracle, the valves close until the O2 is inside the cells and CO2 in the tracheoles, then the spiracles open again and start the process again.
This is the most optimal and functional respiratory system because it allows to capture more O2 molecules than any other system.
