Prayers Guided by 1 Corinthians 12:12-30
(Body Prayer)
Raise hands high and outstretched above the head
God, see our praise as we lift our hands
open and eager, waiting for you to guide us
through dark and dangerous valleys
to pastures of soft green grass
among the tall buildings of the city
and into each others homes.
Bring hands over chest and clasp over heart
God, fill hour hearts with the knowledge that you are with us
to have and to hold,
in each day of our lives,
for richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health
in good times and in bad.
Put hands at side to mimic holding hands with a partner, some direction may be needed
As we are one in you, we are one with each other.
Let us not forget, as we go hand in hand in to the world,
to not let pride blind us from each other
but as members of the body let us celebrate our uniqueness
and communion with one another.
In Christ's name,
Amen
(response prayer 1)
Jesus, Precious Friend
Solomon has seen many things under the sun
Let us delight in the wisdom that two are better than one
That when one falls they have another to pick them up.
Lord receive our prayer
Ever Present Spirit
David was blinded by the fury of sin as he gazed upon Bathsheba
And sent the Hittite, her husband, to death.
Let us have true and obedient eyes that seek after your heart.
Lord receive our prayer
Almighty and wonderful God
We are so grateful to be in this space with You and each other
As the body of your church we prepare our hearts and minds
to be nourished by your Spirit.
Lord receive our prayer
In your Son's holy name, Jesus Christ
Amen
(Response prayer 2)
God,
Take from our hands this humble offer of praise.
Lord receive our prayer
Wipe clean the smear of transgression,
we have against you and against our sisters and brothers
from our faces.
Lord receive our prayer
Shed the blinding scales of pride from our eyes
that neglect the rest of the body of your church.
Lord receive our prayer
Arrest our feet as we march down wild and wayward paths
away from your love.
Lord receive our prayer
Lord, with much gratitude we share this time and place
with you and each other.
As the body of your church we prepare our hearts and minds
to be nourished by your Spirit.
Lord receive our prayer
In Christ's holy name
Amen
