Mate there are literally companies (Ex: Scientific Revenue - Which Jim Sterling did a fantastic video on.) whose purpose is to determine the bare minimum interaction and game content required to convince people to make in-game purchases.  Genuinely good game developers regularly have their studios bought out by larger publishers who promptly gut their projects in the name of profitability. EA alone has effectively killed Blackbox, Bullfrog, DreamWorks Interactive, Maxis, Origin Systems, Pandemic, Visceral, Westwood, and several other less well known studios.  Things like microtransactions, subscription services, loot boxes, digital currencies, or even DLC inflation with series such as The Sims or the Paradox Grand Strategy Games are all fantastic examples of how the gaming industry wants to bleed people dry instead of produce quality entertainment.  However none of the above should be understood as suggesting that video games themselves - or the earnest developers - are necessarily just looking to profit. It is something specifically and distinctly tied to corporate culture and the greater trends of capitalism directed by shareholders and other individuals who probably do not give a single fuck about anyone’s fun.

Thanks, dude, I appreciate that. Like, I love her and I appreciate what she has done for me, but I’m not going to pretend its okay that she acts the way she does to keep me feeling inadequate- whether she realizes that’s what she’s doing or not.
