Did you know? ....if you are served with a lawsuit you only have a limited time to respond. That is right - in Virginia, you have only 21 days to file a responsive pleading, also known as an "Answer."
If you are sued - whether that lawsuit is valid or not - failure to respond to the pleading can (and likely will) result in a default judgment against you. You absolutely MUST file an Answer to protect your rights. Once a default judgement is entered and a certain amount of time passes (different depending on which state), the judgment stands and cannot be contested. This means you are on the hook for the requested relief.
That said, if you are served with any kind of paper from the court, it is best to see a lawyer immediately.
