I have a serious case of (RBF) Resting Bitch Face. Up until a few years ago, it was a mystery to me why people thought I was uninterested or bored even when that was so not the case. My friends know me, so they mostly make fun of it. What is starting to get on my nerves is the below: * Being asked why don’t I smile or being told to smile more. I think I might unintentionally snarl if I hear this a few more times now, which would not help at all. * People assume I am arrogant within a few minutes of meeting them. * Assuming I am not interested in the conversation or that I am just plain bored. If it’s an important meeting/interview I have to keep in mind to not just be “mentally present” but look like being one too. * Having figured out the above, I now contort my face into “expressions” as much as I can when conversing/listening. It is irritable and I am not sure I am convincing anyone. * And the most sad thing - if I am accidentally photographed with my RBF, well…I don’t really want to talk about it. Let’s just say when others might end up looking as if they are casually observing the world or like they are lost in some happy memory, I look like I am plotting murder. * And of course, being told that I have a RBF (of course they use synonyms).
