The Amazing Trip of JOBS180.COM in BOHOL!

Hurray for another successful event with BEPO (Bohol Employment and Placement Office)!

Jobs180.com was invited for a big event in the province of Bohol to discuss and help the students prepare for the beginning chapter of their career as young professionals. This event was held last August 20, 2019 at the Bohol Cultural Center with the help of Ms. Maria Vilma Yorong, BEPO Head and the rest of BEPO team.

Ms. Joyce Ann Catacutan, the Academic Linkages Officer of Jobs180.com, shared tips and advice on how to win the hearts of their future employers through Power Dressing, Job Interview Hacks,  and of course, the next generation resumé tailored especially for millennial applicants, the ResuméLink. Ms. Catacutan shared the benefits and advantages of ResuméLink in applying for a job, and the amazing convenience this next generation resumé brings to jobseekers and employers alike.

The Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) is the talk given to graduating students of colleges and universities in order to prepare them for employment. It has different modules but its main objective is to make students aware of what life after graduation is, and what to expect in the workplace.

PEOS is a general public outreach, particularly for those who are still mulling over their career options, and those who want to get more information about the positive and negative realities of overseas employment.

An event made possible through a synergistic cooperation among the Provincial Government of Bohol, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Philippine Overseas Employment Authority (POEA), and Jobs180.com, the team firmly believes that “more awareness means more preparedness;” and “prepared people are empowered people.”

“BEPO makes it a point to conduct trainings and seminars that could help boost the labor force, and open our people’s eyes to the realities of life and what to do about it. More importantly, the Provincial Government, through BEPO, is making everything possible to help alleviate poverty and address unemployment and underemployment in Bohol,” Yorong clarifies.

Last September 21, 2018, Jobs180.com, with Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, held an Industry Partnership MOA signing at Jobs180.com in Ortigas Center, Pasig City. Present were Ms. Maria Isabel Granada, Director of Scholarships, Job Placement and Alumni Relations and Mr. Celso Jaballa, Vice President for External Relations, both representing MSEUF. Jobs180.com was represented by Mr. Kim Chua, General Manager, and Mr. Andrew Francisco, HR and Finance Manager.

Since 2013, Jobs180.com has been forging strategic partnerships with colleges and universities nationwide, initiating efforts to increase the employability of the graduating students through its Marketing ME career orientation program. Seminars are conducted for the graduating students, where they learn about personal branding and gain confidence in their job search.

In 2014, Jobs180.com also began coordinating with colleges and universities in organizing campus job fairs within the school premises and assisted in inviting companies from different industries to participate and interface with the graduating students for employment opportunities.

Annually, there are over 500,000 students who transition from school to employment, and most feel unprepared and some even clueless on how to go begin. Jobs180.com aims to assist the new batches of our labor force every year by educating them about career search and the soft skills needed in the workplace. The first interview tip is to show up

Imagine this: 

An Employer goes through your resume and smiles. He reads further through your resume and nods. Then he goes back up to check your contact details. He picks up the phone and dials your number. 

Your phone is ringing! You answer and the Employer introduces himself, his company and a job opportunity for you. Then he schedules a job interview with you and you confirm before he hangs up.

Here’s a fact: From the moment you answered the phone call from the Employer, you already have the job. And it is yours to lose, depending on how your interview goes.

I don’t mean to put too much pressure on you as you get ready to dress for your job interview this morning. But let me give you a gold mine of a tip that’ll be too easy to ace: First, you better show up for the interview. Yes, it’s that easy-peasy.

Employers complain all the time that many applicants who confirmed for a job interview do not show up at all. So just the fact that you showed up for an interview already puts you ahead of almost half of the applicants vying for the same job. It’s a sad fact, yes. It reflects how much common courtesy has eroded from the psyches of the typical job seeker today. But it’s an occurrence that’s becoming more and more commonplace. Just ask any recruiter you know.

If for any reason you cannot be there for the job interview, the obvious action is to call the interviewer to let him know that you are cancelling. You can also send an email. If there is an emergency and you can’t get to a phone before the interview date, call afterwards to apologize.

From the point of view of the Employer, he allotted a special time just for you. Then he waited. And waited…  And waited some more… As he got madder and more irritable, he thinks, “Ininjan ako ng aplikante!” But once he gets a valid explanation, believe me, he’ll melt and give you another chance. After all, he really liked your resume.

This tip may sound so easy it seems stupid to even say it to a job seeker or even devote blog post for it. But reality is, not all job seekers seem to be aware that it is wrong and rude to blow off a confirmed job interview. You should know better. It is a reflection of your regard and respect for other people’s time, your pakikipagkapwa-tao. Pakikipagkapwa-tao is supposed to be an attribute of the Filipino culture, but from the behavior of job seekers today, I wonder what happened to it.
