Podrias explicar como funciona la segunda división de España. Creia que habia solo un grupo, pero ahora veo que esta dividido por regiones o algo asi?

Pues si la liga esta dividida entre grupo norte y grupo sur, cada uno con 16 equipos. Este año por razones del covid y tal lo han complicado, pero generalmente estos equipos juegan liga normal de partidos de ida y de vuelta. El equipo ganador de cada grupo asciende a la primera iberdrola mientras que los dos peores clasificados de cada grupo bajan a Primera Nacional (tercera división donde hay siete grupos cada uno con catorce equipos con playoffs para ascender al Reto Iberdrola).

Pero este año, lo que han hecho en el Reto es hacer cuatro grupos, un grupo A y B dentro de los grupos Norte y Sur. Ha habido liga normal primero donde cada equipo a jugado 14 partidos para decidir una clasificación. Ahora los 4 primeros de cada grupo están jugando partidos de promoción entre todo el grupo Norte o Sur donde el primero de cada ascenderá. Y los 4 últimos de cada grupo están jugando partidos de relegacion para ver quien baja a primera nacional.

Honestamente a mi me sigue confundiendo un poco especialmente como solo se cambió a este sistema hace un par de años y está temporada no han seguido el plan normal por falta de tiempo, pero espero que esto te ayude un poco :)

Second division of spanish women's league

The one in green next year will go to Primera Iberdrola

From 2n to 5th position they will stay at Reto Iberdrola.

6th to 11th to will do a ko to fight to stay in Reto Iberdrola against Reto South teams at the same position.

12th to 14th position they get relegated to the 3th Spanish league (it does't even have a name yet next year is going to be the first year)

15h to 16th position they get relegated to the 4th Division in Spain Primera Nacional (in the past it was the 3th division now is the 4th)

On June 2nd, 11:00 CEST there will be a draw between 8 teams to decide who play who in Reto Iberdrola play-off promotion:

Hello. I am new to Spanish woso. Can u pls enlighten me how there are different leagues in Spain? Ive seen Copa Catalunya, La Liga and the Primera Division? Thank u so much in advance!!!!

hello sorry for taking so long to reply but I’ll get onto an explanation now! Okay so firstly there is only one league for the highest level of competition in Spain (a league being your regular matches where each team players each other twice over the course of the season and points are tallied up to have an overall champion as the one that’s won the most points at the end). This league is called Primera Iberdrola, however it only began being called this name last (2019/20) season. Before that it was knows as La Liga Iberdrola which might have been where that mix up came from. Also of note is the fact that the men’s league is still called La Liga but now this has nothing to do with the women’s side of the game. In the Primera Iberdrola there are usually 16 teams, but due to corona next season there is going to be 18 since there was promotion but no relegation, spread out around Spain with one team even from the Canary Islands (UDG Tenerife)

The cup that’s played is called the Copa de la Reina (literally the Queen’s Cup), with the men’s equivalent being called Copa del Rey (as you can probably guess it means the King’s Cup). Here it’s a knock out tournament where all Primera Iberdrola teams take part in single match rounds and if you lose a match then you’re out of the running for the title. Wikipedia has a neat table of the format of the competition if you want it clarified more. The final is held in a neutral stadium and the winner of that match is crowned champions of the Copa de la Reina.

The next competition is the Supercopa de España (Spain’s supercup). As you can probably tell by the superlative this is supposed to decide the winner of the winner and best of the best. In previous years it was just a single match played by the previous season’s Copa de la Reina winner and the Primera Iberdrola league winner (if they were both the same team then the team that had come second in the league would be their opponent). However this past season there were more changes and the format changed into a final four competition where the winners and runner up of the cup and the champions and runner up of the league played semi-finals against each other and then the two victors would play a final. This raised a lot of complaints this season as Barça, a team who had won neither the league or the cup last year, ended up winning the supercopa (they’d classified for the competition because they had ended second in the league)

The final one you asked about was the Copa Catalunya, this is a cup played for in the preseason by the four main teams that come from the autonomous community/region of Catalonia. These are barcelona, Espanyol (both teams in the first division), Seagull and AEM Lleida (both in the second division). It is organised by the Catalan Football Federation and is a mini knockout tournament comprised of semi finals and a final.

Below the Primera Iberdrola league comes Reto Iberdrola, the second division of women’s football in Spain. It is split up into a Southern Group and a Northern Group, the winner of each league earns a place in the first division for the following season. However, also of note is the fact that a team affiliated to another team already in the first division (eg. Barca B) cannot be promoted so the second team in the table would take their place instead. The third division, known as Primera Nacional, is the final national league in spain. Here there are 7 groups each consisting of 14 teams divided up by locations. Play offs are held between the group winners to decide on which two teams will be promoted to the Reto Iberdrola.

So in summary, the leagues are Primera Iberdrola (first division consisting of 1 group), Reto Iberdrola (second division consisting of 2 groups) and Primera Nacional (third division consisting of 7 groups). The biggest knock-out tournament which the teams that form the primera iberdrola take part in is called the Copa de la Reina. The winner and runner up of this as well as the teams that came first and second in the league take part in the Supercopa de España. The Copa Catalnya is a preseason tournament which only 4 teams from Catalonia take part in.
