Took a cheap cast selector from a mystery meat parts kit and filed the notch down to resemble an A1 selector, also going through and knocking down the cast marks.

Sandblasted it raw with a pair of cheap nitrided takedown pins, re-phosphated everything, soaked it in ballistol, and threw them on my H&R A1 Lower - Holy shit, this looks and feels sooooo much better.

Like this selector has actually perfectly smooth throws with crisp tactile clicks now instead of feeling like a stiff, grindy mess.

Delta Force Colt 723 Clone

Been meaning to pick up an Aluminum CAR15 Stock for this build for ages, I've just been putting it off due to sticker shock at what the replicas tend to cost.

Finally got one in from JSE Surplus and I gotta say, this has a way better feel than the B5 Polymer CAR Stock I had on there prior - a Cherokee Cheekrest and John Masen Recoil Pad also fits on much more cleanly than the latter as well.

While there's plenty of references of Delta using Aluminum CAR Stocks, there sadly aren't any close-up enough to show whether they used them with the cheekrest/recoil pad combo that I've set mine up with.

On the same token, both those items were common enough in the unit at the time that I can play the plausible deniability card.

So @bureau-of-mines bought Mark LaRue's latest cocaine shitpost product And honestly? I kinda like it. Maybe I'm just biased to bizarre carry handle accessories.

For the record, I haven't seen anyone else with these yet and instagram has so far refused to let me post it. We straight up thought these were going to be vaporware until it shipped last week lol

Reproduction Aimpoint Carry Handle Mount, made by Doingarts Studio (dnA)

The originals were the black sheep cousin to the more popular ARMS, Olympic Arms, and Maryland Gunworks Weaver Carry Handle Mounts used by Delta Force. Nevertheless, the unit can be seen running a small handful of them between 1989-1993.

The quality of this replica is very good, I'd wager on-par with an original. Supposedly no more than 20 originals are estimated to exist in the U.S. according to Aimpoint themselves given how few of them they made, so I'm amazed someone out there was neurodivergent enough to accurately reproduce a wacky scope mount that appears in a total of 3-4 reference photos. But I'm all for it!

Before you ask, no, I highly doubt this thing holds a good zero but I doubt originals did either lol

Rustoleum Enamel for Retro Rifle Cloning

I heard that Rustoleum High-Heat Enamel was a really close match for later shades of the classic 'Colt Grey-Black' finish seen on M16 rifles and carbines the late 80's onward, so I decided to try it out tonight on a beat-up Redi-Mag.

Here's some before and afters:

The results are honestly pretty stunning. I learned that light coats are best, as layering it too thick results in dark areas (as evidenced by the edge where I attempted to fill in the scratches). 2002-Dated Colt Model 6920 LE Take-Off Upper for comparison. Finish should be more or less the same as an M16A2 from the late 80's/90's.

I also tried it on one of those cheap Chinese weaver carry handle scope mounts off amazon that I refinished as well.

No before pics, but it was a really dark satin black anodizing that looked completely wrong. Really satisfied with the result so far.

If the finish ends up being fairly durable, I might just paint my 723 receivers with this stuff while I'm still getting set up for working with moly resin.
