There were times when he felt things would never quiet down, and other where time crawled slower than a stoned Slowpoke. Put simply, being a brand new professor wasn’t as GLAMOROUS as people would lead him to believe. Then again, he was at the heels of his grandfather at every moment. For an old guy verging nearly eighty, he didn’t slow down much. Between his own projects, his grandfather’s antics, and the corral --- he had his plate full. So, once he had a day of leisure, he took it for what it was worth.
People had mentioned a little café not far from Pallet Town. Well, it was far enough away that it attracted his attention. For years, he spent his time between different professors’ labs and exploring the regions rather freely. Since the majority of his time was now centered around his ( tiny ) hometown, he enjoyed a breath of fresh air. Umbreon seemed to enjoy the adventure as well. She trotted alongside him with her eyes following the leaves blowing on the trees.
He saw the edge of the building creeping up in the distance. It was a cute little thing, something out of the way though he knew for a fact that any trainer from here to Unova would be itching to get something to eat after a long day’s travel--- wait, were there trainers battling outside? A smirk crawled onto his face and he shook his head. He could see why it was so popular. His hands tucked into the pockets on his lab coat. He’d neglected to take it off before he’d left and had to laugh. He used to make fun of the old man for forgetting to take his coat off when he wasn’t working, but Oak was quick to remind him that a professor’s job never had a starting point or a finish line.
That was reassuring. He had a job that never ended. It better take a hike for at least an hour or two because he was starving at this point. That, and a cup of coffee wouldn’t hurt either. He approached the area where two trainers were going head-to-head with each other and he glanced at their Pokémon --- a Combusken and a Woobat. Both these trainers weren’t from Kanto, that was for SURE. He adjusted his glasses and just kept walking to the door of the café, pushing it open to let Umbreon walk inside first.
He slipped on over to the nearest table, talking in the soft atmosphere it left off. He’d spent a few years in Kalos and the vibe this place gave off was straight out of Lumoise City. The smell alone could tell him that. Leaning back in his seat as he plucked a menu off the table, he tilted his head. His suspicions were as close to factual as they were going to get. Umbreon sat next to him with her head at his knee. He reached down, scratching just behind her ears as he read. He missed Kalos, actually. Professor Sycamore was good to him and taught him plenty. Five years went by too quick. Exhaling in a sigh, he made a silent reminder to check in on him when he returned home.
