Dear Dad [ /laughs and skips away bc reasonsss ]

Dear Dad,
You're not gonna believe this, but I owe you one. Whether you meant to or not, you taught me a whole hell of a lot about being tough when nobody believes in you. I know when Mom had me you expected a little princess that'd flounce around in dresses and want her room painted pink, and instead you got a disappointment and what might as well have been the first of three sons. But you just couldn't see me like that, could you? Like Stevie and Joey.
It worked out, though. You made me work ten times as hard for a respect I was never going to get. I got used to disappointing the one person I wanted to impress and pushing on anyway. I learned to take what I wanted instead of waiting around for someone to give it to me.
So congrats, Dad. I'm who I am because of you. Not how you wanted me to be, but you know what? I think I'm happier as I am than I ever could've been if I had made you proud for even one minute.
Forever Your Disappointment, Carol
