HAMU(N). O m g, I didn’t mean it like in a feelsy way, lemme explain.
In several of the movies Doraemon has to change his appearance in order to fit within the setting (in “Wan-Nyan Spacetime Odyssey” because in a society of anthropomorphic dogs and cats an earless cat with no clothes stands out too much, in “Great Battle of the Mermaid King” because -- mermaid society, man, he just stands out too much sometimes), but it only applies to costumes because for some reason nobody finds the anthropomorphic cat robot from the future to be unsettling or weird in the slightless.
Although, thinking about it much better, it is true that Doraemon did not fit in within his generation of robots. Just by watching this clip of how the babysitter cat robots perform in school you can easily pin-point who’s Doraemon because, well, he was a defective product, you see that in the 2112 OVA. You could say that Doraemon losing his ears and his yellow paint later on in the OVA was where actual changes were made -- still changes in his appaearance, but you could think that it was to help him fit in as his own individual.
Since he got those two criminals arrested by pure luck, since he got the MiniDoras made resembling his image, since in The Doraemons he’s the member that comes from Japan and there was already another yellow robot in the team... Guess changing his appearance really helped, huh?? Now I see where the feels come from, wow.
