I bet eating Orochimaru is a bit like eating spaghetti--it's all noodles and sauce, because of how he's turned his soul into a mostly-coherent mass of snakes.
Alternatively, one extremely long noodle that Shikako can follow and find all the people with curse seals and, like, eat JUST the curse seals, lolol.
I guess if she can eat JUST the seals that are evil but leave the person who was sealed intact then she could probably do that with the ROOT agents... and I guess maybe also the Branch Hyuuga?
I just read "The Secret Staircase", your Northanger Abbey short story and it is a wonderful modernization! The characters were spot on and it was much fun to read!
I also love this version of the mistaken assumption about Kate's dad and how "it’s only on his account that [she] can afford the tuition [at the university]"
Thank you! I don't usually write moderns, but Northanger Abbey has always felt so relatable to I got inspired to try. I love hearing that people enjoyed my work :)
If anyone wants to read The Secret Staircase it's here.
I might expand this work someday to add in more of the elements of the original story. But then again, do I want to spend time writing John Thorpe?
My (Hopefully. Please.) Last Encounter with A Lazy Critic Who Can’t Be Bothered to Type a Username
Right-o. I’ve had just about enough of this arse, so allow me to be a bitch this one time and write about this.
“Sorry, but i have to drop now. This chapter was shit. The whole hagrid thing was shit. You are forcing the plot to stay the same. I want to read something original, not a re-write.
Why dont they tell the truth to the professors? Why the scholl is bullying then? Why you make Ron go back to the past to do the same things? Why are you focusing in OCs?
I like this history in the past, but is bad now.”
Guest! Wow, you still can’t be bothered to type a name after all this time. Well, I really, sincerely do hope you are dropping this, because frankly, your comments are shit, unoriginal, and sound like someone who has little to no reading comprehension or didn’t bother to read at all.
You want something original and not a re-write? Why are you reading a freaking DO-OVER fanfic, which can only change so much because you know, genre expectations?
Why didn’t they tell the teachers? I BLOODY SAID WHY IN THE CHAPTER. Or do I have to spoon feed it to you?
The school bullying THEN? *snort* You think the majority of the Gryffindors equals the school? And hello, that did happen in book one at this point? The majority of the students from Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff school, is bullying them (giving Harry, Hermione and Ron cold shoulders) because they lost 150 points and the chance for Slytherin to not be the House Cup winners for once.
And why should I change it? Did Ron do something so spectacular in the student body’s eyes that they’ll overlook the FIRST CHANCE IN SIX YEARS FOR SLYTHERINS TO NOT WIN THE HOUSE CUP? It’s a shallow reason, but students are children and teens. Children and teens tend to be shallow. Read or watch stories set in high school and college to see more examples of that.
Why do I make Ron do the same things? Seriously, have you read time travel books in general? Or are you unaware that the “don’t change things too much as a time traveler or your future knowledge will mean shite in the long run” thing exists? And if this is about Norberta, RON IS ALREADY KICKING HIMSELF IN THE ARSE FOR IT, IN CASE YOU DIDN’T UNDERSTAND THAT. It’s a mistake on his part. Characters and humans do make those. Or is that too much for you to understand also?(Did you even read this chapter that you reviewed?!)
Focusing on the OCs? How, exactly? The OCs don’t even have solo chapters or chapters that focus on them and their stories yet. How is that focusing on OCs?! (And aren’t OCs something new? You know, something you’re complaining TBA doesn’t have enough of? Bloody hell, trying to understand where you’re coming from is hurting my brain.)
So to borrow the words of the Chainsmokers, “It was nice to meet you but I hope I never see you again.” Because if I do, you are even less of a person than I thought you were, not being true to your word on top of being a coward who can’t even bother to make an account and bash fairly.
Goodbye and good riddance. Happy fucking Halloween. 😒😎
This is such an insightful comment about Kenny, and you're definitely right about there being an intentional distance he maintains in his personal life. It was a feeling I had as I wrote in his dating Brock. I wanted to see how he would behave with a romantic partner. I got my answer. I now know what happened to cause this protective detachment.
Now to be frank: I didn't know how much I would get into Kenny's life because I know that sometimes fan fic audiences can be impatient with original characters and want to focus only on their relationship to Olitz. So I've been weighing how I could (as seamless as possible) allow you guys to know Kenny a little more.
As far as Kenny and Brock, I won't reveal my cards or my intentions. He's ...interesting. But it's nice to see who Kenny was referring to when he went to dinner with Fitz in episode 7.
Thanks for reading and I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter. The next digest will be published tomorrow (Friday) night.
How would you feel about receiving a comment like this on one of your stories? Do you respond, delete, or just ignore it? I’m curious because I am in between options and feelings about this one...
Wow, Zeph... I mean, not that I don’t appreciate it but wow... eleven reviews in less than an hour worth of time? What did you do, have them all open and just edited your reviews before posting them?
I’ll get to actually responding to them tomorrow afternoon or so, though, as I need to get up quite early tomorrow morning.
Hi. Let's talk about this review. Fair warning that I am really mad and going to cuss. I'm not even upset about this as a review. As a writer, I give zero fucks about what this person thinks because they are clearly an asshole. As a women, as a human being, I am disgusted by this. In this story, Pansy has told Harry that she has had sex with Neville, and that it was casual. That is it. She has never said shit about Draco or any other man. Then, she and Harry, as two consenting adults, almost have sex. This does not make Pansy a "whore." If she wants to consensually have sex with every guy she meets, you do not get to call her a whore. What makes this even more fun, is that the opening scene of this story is Harry dipping out in the middle of the night on a Muggle woman who he had consensual, casual sex with and no one called him a whore. "Guest" seems to be okay with having all the sex you want, but only if you have a penis. If you feel this way about women or any of my female characters, kindly see yourself the fuck away from my stories. Have a great day. ✌
Tobirama matter of factly planning a temple of the Shikabane-hime in the middle of Konoha is SENDING me oh my god?? Is Shikako still born to Shikako and Yoshino in this universe? How does everyone react to maybe having a mortal incarnation of their patron deity growing up before their eyes? Wait does Shikabane-hime create the Garden during the Founding era. Is she also worshipped in Sand?? And not to hijack other anon’s prompt but the full saying is “by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes” so.. Jashin? Does Konoha have beef with Yugakure in this world? I LOVE THIS AU AAHH
First of all, Tobirama is a very clever lad: if a goddess is going to support their village built on the shakiest network of treaties and alliances, then he's going to take that support and use it as a foundation because otherwise all they have to go on is his older brother's charisma and that's NOT going to cut it long term. Also, he really is quite jealous that all Izuna had to do was look at Shikabane-hime to get a cool technique while he has to actually go through the scientific method WHILE ALSO DESIGNING THE VILLAGE.
I think Shikako looks enough like Yoshino that in this universe, they think it's the other way around--that Yoshino is, if not a mortal incarnation of their patron deity (because MAYBE Shikako is immortal in this universe due to the massive amounts of earnest worship actually working to make her a goddess even if she wasn't actually one in the beginning) then some kind of... goddess blessed? Like... this Konoha is so off the rails that there may be a separate order of priest/priestess-nin and Yoshino would be recruited for that.
And, like, I do like the Shikaku and Yoshino's love story, and it would be very sad if they didn't get together, so it's not that the priests/priestesses of the Shikabane-hime CAN'T fall in love and have families (and also, because Shikako is just like. Hey. As long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, the genders of said parties does not matter. Hooray marriage equality decades earlier)
Anyway, then if they do still have child Shikako, it could be a very... !!!! ... A Chosen One!!!! And then, THIS Shikako would be the "she who has divine right" version of Hokage!Shikako from my Hail To The Queen series... but that's maybe getting too self-referential?
I do think Shikabane-hime and Gelel create the Garden during the Founding era--because her arriving in each universe post-Split makes the Garden, if it hasn't already been made--so I would think that, yes, a version of her is also worshiped in Sand. But if she didn't stick around to make contact with the shinobi who would become the founders of Sand, they may know her by a different name? Like, in Land of Wind she is Gelel but in Land of Fire she is Shikabane-hime and it becomes a matter of, like, denominational differences.
Alternatively, rather than the Kazekage clan being called "Sabaku no" (of the Desert) perhaps they are called "Yokuchi no" (of the Oasis)? But I suppose that depends how early on in the timeline she is for Sand.
And finally… IS THAT WHERE THAT PHRASE COMES FROM? Oh my god, I'm so bad at identifying when prompts are references to things. It just goes right over my head T_T
I don't think Yugakure even exists long enough for Konoha to have beef with them. If one of Shikabane-hime/Gelel's early "miracles" DOESN'T include a divine smack down of Jashin, possibly erasing Yugakure--or possibly the whole of Land of Hot Water--from the map via volcano (I mean, hot springs are usually because of geothermals, and if she can make an earthquake she can probably make a volcanic eruption) then I don't know what counts as a miracle.
