Soldat Analysis

Soldat is a 2D multiplayer action shooter inspired by games like Liero, Worms and Quake. 

Soldat is a fast paced side-view 2D shooter with with fully customize-able characters and multiple weapons for the player to choose from, the gameplay itself has has the player scoot around the map with the use of rocket boots while keeping them entertained with the instant action, all alongside the the rag-doll effects, the gore factor and great player community makes this game one of a kind.

Core Mechanics

Movement: Soldat’s movement plays alongside its combat making the game what it is. The player has standard movements (left, right, up, down, jump) as well as rocket boots which allow the player to reach new heights for superior positions in the battlefield or to skate around faster being a more nimble target. This is where Bunny Hopping come in and Soldat was one of the first games to do so. 

Bunny Hopping is when the player gains movement from moving in a single direction a while jumping, if timed right as soon as the player lands they jump again gaining more speed while they continue moving.

Combat: As the game has such fast movement it causes the combat to be fast as well. By having multiple weapon varying by rpm (round per minute) and bullet spread allows for close quarters and open sided gameplay. Yet the gun does not put you at a disadvantage, if a player chooses a shotgun in a open level they are able to bunny hop around the level moving fast enough to get close to secure the kill.
