i keep seeing people (specially on tiktok, but some here as well) trying to justify c!wilbur’s dislike of c!ranboo as “jealousy” or saying he was “wrong and stupid” for the way his interaction went with c!ranboo and... really? do you remember who c!wilbur is?
they are character foils. they are the biggest character foils the server has ever seen. while ranboo has the philosophy of “choose people not sides” wilbur has the philosophy of “choose ideals not people”. not because wilbur doesn’t care about people, but because he cares about staying true to what he believes in more than anything else. that’s why he destroyed l’manburg after spiralling and convincing himself l’manburg wasn’t what he made it to be anymore. ranboo would absolutely never do that ever because he just doesn’t see things like that.
it doesn’t mean ranboo is better than wilbur. i’ve talked about how ranboo has an incredibly flawed and skewed view of the world around him and how that makes his opinions flawed and skewed as well, and wilbur just isn’t that much different, except he puts his ideals before others. is that wrong? that’s debatable! that’s something that can be debated! that’s an interesting thing to debate, actually! the point is that he also has a flawed view of the world, and he takes “sticking to his ideals” too far.
they are character foils. it’d make no sense if wilbur loved ranboo like all the other characters do because ranboo goes against everything wilbur believes in. he disliked tubbo, as well, because he thought tubbo was weak and a yes man, but he didn’t despise him because at least tubbo was fighting for something. to the extent of wilbur’s knowledge, ranboo isn’t fighting for anything — therefore, to wilbur, ranboo is a coward who just agrees with everyone so that everyone likes him, no matter if he agrees with their actions or not, and the only person he doesn’t butter up is dream, who was deemed “server menace”, “ultimate villain”.
to wilbur, ranboo can’t think for himself or fight for what’s right, whatever that is. of course he doesn’t like him. of course he doesn’t. and that’s not a bad thing! we will finally see a character actually antagonize ranboo!!! that’s new!! it was only done once before and was immediately shut down so we didn’t get to see anything happen about it. this is gonna be interesting for sure!!
