I am rewatching Inuyasha right now and damn, I am really surprised how Sesshomaru who was this NINETEEN YEAR OLD, power obsessed teenager in cain mode and still needed to be parented by his OWN father beyond the grave was ever seen to be a good father figure.
Hello! I drew this a day ago and colored it today, I love Inuyasha and I’ve been rewatching the whole show again! Happy 4th of July if you’re from USA Lol :D
ok so like this shit is famous yeah like this is where my teenage brain lost cells that it never recovered and I love this scene to THIs DAy
but….uhhh…what came after lowkey, got me angy and I’m not talking abt this
this is tea and I love it.
I’m talking about the way that they make Inuyasha and Kagome like physically need one another. Like I am rewatching it kind of out of order, but when I got here I was hype because this is like one of the first little developments in their relationship. And it’s set up so good!
Inuyasha fresh off of nearly dying against Sesshomaru is scared of losing Kagome so he sends her home!make brain go brr! It still fucks me up! And the HUG!! AHHH romANce
but later in this episode or in the next one idk, but like Inuyasha has to fight Royakan even tho he shouldn’t be able to bc of the wounds yeah? Miroku and Kaede go out of their way to protect him
W miroku we’re gonna pretend this isnt a little gay
Anyway royakan breaks him out anyway and they fight anyway and he’s like canonically unable to fight him not because of his wounds or bc royakan has jewel shards but because Kagome isnt there
THIS SHIT IS SO BLURRY IM SORRY but it has Kaede saying
“His slow movements aren’t simply due to his injury. It’s Kagome . Without Kagome, he’s unable to realize his true power.”
AND LIKE huh?? Like I don’t know, I think having two characters, romantic characters in particular, need each other at the beginning of narrative is perfectly fine. You know, the good ol’ mcguffin holding us together, in this case the Shikon Jewel. I dig it, in a story you need a reason to put characters so unlike each other together, cool. But what sells romance or even friendship, for me is when the characters eventually don’t need each other and they seek each other out anyway. At some point it becomes about the desire to adventure together than whatever reason they started.
And that happens in episode twentyor it’s nineteen, idk. Where Inuyasha pushes her down the well. He’s willing to forgo what her power gets him, what he needs from her, for her safety. It’s his desire for her that makes him try and cut her out. That’s the romance.
And on Kagome’s end when she comes back, she goes back not necessarily thinking about the Jewel or the mission, she’s thinking about Inuyasha because he was hurt badly.
she says at the end of the of this shitty fckn gif
“ I thought you died…because you didn’t come for me!”
And follows that up later when he tells her he didn’t want her to come back,
“I can’t help it—I wanted to see you.”
It’s all about the I WANT yknow, it’s not about the I NEED but it’s kind of ruined by them contextually needing each other.
Kagome NEEDS inuyasha to protect her and Inuyasha NEEDS Kagome to be strong at all.
It’s not bad ok, ok, it just frustrates me a little when I think about it because the whole point for both of them is that they LIKE each other and they were going to go to each other anyway. There is very little point in having Inuyasha dependent on Kagome or vice versa like this. Idk man it’s really not a big deal it just irks me alittle.
Like yknow later in the show it gets better where Kagome is way stronger but there’s always that undercurrent that she needs him and not that she just fckn loves him.
I feel like this kind of makes that dumb shit that Naraku be talking about kind of true. He’s always like ‘love makes you weak’ n shit and ‘Kikyo’s love for Inuyasha made her weak’ and it’s like well, if you damsel Kagome all the time and make her Inuyasha’s biggest weakness, then yeah, love does make you weaker. And like, idk, obviously the point they want to get across is that love makes you stronger or whatever—but brotato,,,,I don’t know if that’s what you wrote.
Ok, ok ok…I promise I’m not hating….this show still makes me cry and laugh and brings me so much joy joyyy
