The thing I like about when Sydney tells Carmy that her dad is in the hospital is that when Carmy says he'll drive, you can literally see in Sydney's face that this is a hard boundary. Like, the way she says no - in that moment, the face she makes? This is going to come up again next season. There is something there, a real line that she has placed between herself and other people (probably just work people or maybe just Carmy? I mean, Carmy has been kind of not someone I would let past my boundaries either, so, valid). This has to come up. I can sense that they've been laying the groundwork for Sydney being avoidant for a while now. She tends to bottle stuff up a lot, from many people. I'm kind of excited about this!

Also, I really wanna know what the deal is between Marcus and his dad.

I love how important Marcus is to episode 2.

When he walks in, it's to the usual dysfunction that is a feature of the Berzatto family dynamic.

Richie and Carmy are yelling at each other instead of talking, Syd is caught in between them, while the people who love them and are used to it come in to calm things down, fail and make things worse by bringing up Claire - the reason Carmy is spiralling.

Carmy said some shit to Claire & as usual, instead of dealing with his mistake, he is avoiding - by changing the menu, by drafting 'non-negotiables' that he won't discuss because he wants to yell and fight about it because he is a Berzatto after all and THIS IS HOW THEY DEAL WITH SHIT. By yelling and fighting about another issue that they just made up that has nothing to do with the real issue that needs dealing with!

It doesn't seem to be getting better and they're on the verge of wasting an entire day and not working at all when Marcus walks in and offers them something that was missing in all that dysfunction - PERSPECTIVE.

Marcus is a reminder of all the sacrifices and mistakes they've made. A reminder of why they all gave so much so that this restaurant could work. Marcus was working with them in that restaurant when his mother died.

And suddenly, none of the yelling is important anymore.

my feelings about claire have changed a bit. but, solely from a narrative perspective, it seems silly how much hate she gets. she’s such a non factor lol.

i still maintain the opinion that she is badly written; she really just feels like somebody pinned googly eyes and brown hair on a cork-board and surrounded her with strange anecdotes.

she genuinely doesn’t feel like a fleshed out person to me. it’s actually kinda funny, especially when every other character feels so lived in.

she reminds me of the characters i quickly created as a preteen on wattpad to randomly shake shit up for my main characters because i wanted a chapter to be longer lol.

shouldn’t a more important character, be better constructed ? (p.s the answer is yes)

Just so we’re clear, I would die for Tina. I just forgot how much of a bitch she was to Sydney (who I would also die for), in these first few episodes.

It hurts my heart to hate her but god damn she’s being an asshole.
