I have started a 1 to 1 comparison of the Dregs re-writes (2025) compared to the original text of Six of Crows (2015)
This is not in any way hate to Leigh Bardugo, her fans, or the fans of the tv show Shadow and Bone that included the characters from Six of Crows. I am a deeprooted and hyperfixated fan who wanted to post as full of transparency about the entire thing as I can. Page by page, chapter by chapter good faith comparisons. I am fully aware that Leigh originally wanted to write the books with the Crows as adults but she didn't. She wrote them as teenagers and that became integral to the structural integrity of the story.
For added context as i compile my first 5 chapters of information, here is the flier that was sent with the Dregs edition of the books. Please note that there is no mention at all of any edits from the original source material. That is the main point I am trying to critique here - there is no communication on what is happening when the story has been explicitly changed.
(Note, my hand is only making sure the page is flattened, it curled a bit in the mail and I never got it to fully lay flat.)
The text reads: "Hello, and welcome back to Ketterdam. I just wanted to thank you for going on this ride with me. It's been over a decade since these characters walked into my life. They began as simple archetypes: a master thief, a spy who left no trace, a sharpshooter who couldn't resist a gamble, a naive rich kid, an embittered soldier, an audacious Grisha trying to set things right. I had no idea how they would change my life and how much they woild come to mean to me. Thank you for embracing them and their messy, chaos-making, criminal ways. I am forever grateful for the love you've shown them and the kindness you've shown me. Now, I'll stop with all this sentimentality, Kaz wouldn't approve. Gather your crew. Sharpen your knives. Please note that the first five chapters in both the original 2015 text and the 2025 rewrites will be coming out sometime in the week. I will try to keep them linked to this thread as a master post to follow along, and feel free to comment or dm me with any comments or questions. Again there is no shred of hate in my intentions, but I feel like a detailed comparison is warranted, even just for archival and record-keeping's sake.
