fingers intertwining with her own / cycling movements floating in the cool air. hair fluttering with the wind that gently passes you by / & a smile like the sun ( for once / it’s a burning passionately in your chest something warm ). ❝ i think i’m getting the hang of this. ❞
there’s a candlelight / burning & flickering pathetically like you , but it still lights the way forward. it beckons the darkness to crawl to the walls / they watch you ( their eyes burn into the back of your head / they see right through you / they pierce through your skin like paper / your mask is thin / you’re so thin ). guiding light / you continue to walk forward , delving deeper into the mouth of the abyss. you keep drifting onward / slow , wide movements. there’s no dream to see in the horizon / everything you know has been devoured by the ocean ( your happy ever after / your future / you’ve fallen deep / you can’t swim ). your candlelight can only light just a bit above you / it’s all you’ve ever known ( leaving emptiness in your footsteps / the past left behind in your memories )
.there are cracks on the floor / growing ( following you ). your touch / creates splinters. you smile / you laugh ( & you break ). a voice rings in your head / they’re telling you to shut up. they’re telling you how much of a disappointment they are / they’re telling you how much they hate you ( you nod your head / you know / they’re right ). you use to have wings / you use to dance & fly among the sky , small fingers grasping for drifting clouds ( childlike eyes / stars reflecting ). they tore your wings off / & you were grounded to the earth , to the soil , where you belong.
after all / parents know what’s best ( you keep walking ).
there’s someone in front of you / & your poor candlelight , it sparks into being ( & for once you see something brighter / for once you can’t feel the eyes staring into you ). eyes soften / but ( don’t get too close / your heart aches / your heart is soft , weak / don’t get too close ). eyes glance / to something unsettling. it’s invisible / though nothing is there you know it exists. it’s scared of the light / this feeble , dying light ( you reach your hand out to her / for all that this light could provide / you’d give every spark / if it beckoned the ghosts away / even just for a moment ).
❝ you look like you could use a little light , you can have mine. ❞
