[most plots never complete due to me losing interest in the thread, or my frame of mind has altered.  I will fully admit that in like 99% of the cases, I’m the one who drops the thread]

[to generalize, the biggest issue I have when I drop a thread is when the RPer that I’m writing with does something with the characterization of their Muse that rubs me the wrong way.  One little nuance or hiccup that irks me and I lose all interest]

[I’m still struggling with my guy, even after two years.  Reyes is easy enough to write smut for.  The Reaper?  Not so much. He’s a challenge that no one has been able to step up to the plate for]

It had gone on for far, far too long.

The passive-aggressive bullshit, snark and snide commentary in public and behind closed doors, weeks of conversation avoidance and nights of quick, rough sex just to fill that void.

They had both been fed up, filled and overflowing with irritation and impatience, pain and anxiety.  Where outlets had been between them, only fragile walls were left standing.

It wasn’t enough.  It had never been enough.  Not between them.

Not with everything they had gone through together.

What the actual f–!

Less an act out of spontaneous rage, the fingers slipped from the initial intention to hold chin to close around that roped and corded throat, tense, aching, trembling lest the outlaw lose all control of himself.  Still weighing less than the Commander, they were no lightweight at this stage in the game and the forward momentum he had accumulated in his approach carried him to back his lover against the locked door of those private quarters to pin him thoroughly.

For that moment, at least.

A few words snapped, gaze refusing to be met, and being brushed off yet again when demands and inquiries had been put to the ragged leader of Blackwatch, a a snapping point had been reached and successfully triggered, and that had been that.  Only God knew then as to what had made the outlaw stop dead in his tracks instead of following through with vented rage and frustration and frayed emotions curling his fists and laying his lover flat on his ass.

Or attempting to.  Who was he kidding?  Plausible regrets for another day.

But there they were, now eye to eye, flushed flesh, ragged breaths, and the white of eyes rimmed red.  Frozen with those fingers locked around that throat and gloved counterparts closed around the wrist belonging to the gunslinger.

For fuck’s sake, Gabe, will you just fuckin’ talk to me?

And only God knows what had fissured that wall built so fragile around his heart.  The pain in those dusky eyes.  The crack that swallowed the sob in that smoke-laced voice.  The sudden physical attack from the last person he thought would even dare attempt it given his current disposition.

Decades of trained emotional isolation solidifies the foundation of those eggshell walls of his and that’s all he’d been able to gruff out.  His fortress built at the cost of everything that’s ever meant anything to him.
