fellas is it gay to fall off a spot so you can be close to your soulmate in the fandometrics??
the biggest enemy to dan and phil: hastune miku
btw what happened to fandometrics? like did i miss something or am i stupid or did i hallucinate it was even a thing we cared about??
hiiiii staff, hope you're doing well with the backend migration stuff!
this is kind of a stupid and probably low-priority question, but a few mutuals and i have been wondering: do the stats published on @fandom reflect the trends during one week, or since the last stats roundup on that blog? as in, if for one week they don't get published, do the trends from that week then count towards the next "Week in Review", or just for the "Year in Review" later on?
thank you for the work you do and for keeping tumblr so fun for us <3
Answer:Â Hey there, @snowiiiiie!
Thanks for the kind words, and this isnât a stupid question at all!
The data that we use for @fandomâs Fandometrics is seven-day data, as in the previous seven days before the publication of Mondayâs lists. Itâs not cumulative from the previous roundupâso if we donât publish one week, the following week wonât have two weeks' worth of data. Unfortunately, the tool we use parses just one weekâs worth of data. This is also why, if we skip a week, we donât do rank changes (whether a tag moved up or down) on the Fandometrics lists.
What is cumulative, though, is Year in Review! Year in Review takes into account an entire yearâs worth of data (from late October of the previous year to late October of the current year). So while itâs not January to December, it is a full 365 days worth of trends. We canât wait to share Year in Review with you and the rest of Tumblr come Decemberâitâs gonna be a good one!
Thanks for the question! Keep 'em coming, folks.

Fandometrics Graphs
so based on this post I decided I wanted to do some sort of graph/visual representation of how we've been doing every week in the fandometrics
the first one I did has all 4 areas we're interested in (Phan, Dan and Phil, AmazingPhil, and Daniel Howell) on the same graph
but i think it's kinda too busy to really tell what's going on so I also made individual ones for each of the four statistics. On these, I included lines for the mean and median number of points* we have earned thus far as well as the running total for the year
I did this all in Python and the google colab ipynb file is here if you want to see it
*I calculated the points using a basic system of 1st place = 20, 2nd = 19, and so on, giving 20th 1 point. If we weren't on the list in a given week, we got 0 points.
I canât believe that I didnât hear the @fandom account hasnât been posting fandometrics anymore since April âčïž
Iâm a big champion/celebrator of my fandoms, so I always went there and was so delighted to track where they showed up, how far they climbed, how long they stayed up there, especially after big releases or fandom moments. You can probably even scroll back and see me mass-reblogging their fandometrics posts whenever my favorite things showed up (the last one I remember was Gravity Falls/The Book of Bill/Billford back last summer, and I tracked that on the charts like crazy because it was a fandom/ship REBIRTH basically).
Iâm so sad to think that I wonât be able to celebrate these fun stats on all current and new fandomâs next blowups. Rest in peace, fandometrics. Please come back some day!
