Coughed up another rin
Absolutely infuriating that people keep trashing on R.F. Kuang for “being pretentious” when they knowingly pick up a novel in a genre KNOWN for using academic language. Like please don’t read dark academia if you’re not prepared for references to classic lit, footnotes, or elevated language like babe those are genre staples.
Chapter one. Pt.1
“Cambridge, Michaelmas Term, October.
She knew that voice. She knew, before she turned around, whom she would find at the door.”
-KATABASIS, R.F. Kuang-
how it feels hoping for a happy ending in an rf kuang book:
Best moment of Katabasis so far is when they meet the cohort of dead students who voluntarily stay in Hell when they don't have to, because they'd rather stay charred ghosts if they're the charred ghosts of prestigious Oxbridge attendees rather than risk reincarnation as a farmer or laborer. That bit is C.S. Lewis-worthy.
Rin and the Phoenix
Don't, cried the ghost of Mai'rinnen Tearza.
"Do it," Rin whispered.
"Your will is mine," said the Phoenix.
Nezha and Rin
