Kelsey Shwetz is a Canadian-born painter and co-organizer of monthly Lady Painters Parties. Shwetz makes large-scale, lush, figurative work that’s informed formally by elements of collage and classical painting techniques, and concerned with the female gaze, intimacy, and registers of memory. She has recently exhibited in Germany, New York, Miami, Toronto, and Montreal. Shwetz was awarded residencies at Emerson Landing (MD), Eastside International (LA), Starry Night (NM) and Can Serrat (Spain). Publications featuring her work include: Brooklyn Magazine, Whitehot Magazine, NYC-ARTS, Posture Magazine, Flavorwire, Lost at E Minor, Lip Magazine, Tjen Folket, and the Globe and Mail. Shwetz received a BA Honours in Psychology and Painting from the University of Manitoba in 2009. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn and is represented by Christopher Stout Gallery, New York."
