Ok it's late and i may be the only one and i may be crazy but whatever the earl of kent has going on for king lear is merthurian. they are decidedly NOT merlin and arthur but the whole thing is merthurian. that's all.

(also we need to make merthurian a thing bc it's definitely a thing.)

So I watched the RWRB movie :D

First of all, I am so so happy that this movie was created.

There are so few queer romcoms like this one, where queer people and couples are simply allowed to just exist in the same way straight people and couples have always been represented in television. So a huge thank you to everyone who worked on this movie!

The movie did take out a lot of parts in the book that I feel were really important. I missed the absent characters, the exact dialogues and emails, some of the scenes and the order of events. However, I feel that every single page of the book is really important, so it's unrealistic to expect everything to be fit into a film of reasonable length.

(Would I have watched a five to six hour movie that used the book as a literal script? Yes, but that's not for everyone!)

I don't think any movie can fully capture or replicate the experience of reading a book. Even shows can only come a little bit closer. Red, White & Royal Blue rules among books, so we have to be fair in judging the movie.

The point of the movie was not to replace the book. It was to share a story we loved in a different format so that it could reach more people. It was delightfully fun to watch, and I'd recommend it to anyone, whether they have read the book or not. That was the end goal, and we've reached it!

Thinking about RWRB, and those silly boys, and this one post I saw on Pinterest but can't find the original Tumblr post for:

And you know what I think? I think that this is real even in our (admittedly disappointing) universe. Yes they're fictional, but the impact they had on me is real, the hope they gave me was real, and that's beautiful too.

Because someone wrote this. Wrote them. (Casey McQuiston you gorgeous gorgeous soul.) And so so many of us read this and pressed the pages to our chest and ached and those feelings were real. All of us are real. And I felt connected to all of you in a way I never had before when I first read this; it made me not so alone anymore.

I often get really scared when movies for my favorite books of all time are set to come out, just because I have so much riding on them. Idk about you guys, but RWRB literally changed me, my life, the way I’m living it, my entire worldview. I’m counting on this movie to do it justice.

Not me reading Drarry right after Merthur and realizing that Arthur and Draco are actually one and the same in terms of their (unbeknownst to them) unhealthy obsessions with dark-haired-with-pretty-eyes self-sacrificing oblivious dumbasses, and also one and the same are their long-suffering previously-assholish fathers Uther and Lucius who have to put up with their shit.

listening to their music

and reading their favorite books

It’s like, oh my goodness you’re so amazing, I want to see the world through your eyes.
