Rhino Love for #MonochromeMonday by #wildographer & photographic guide @andybiggssafaris #Repost @andybiggssafaris ・・・ My Favorite Moment and Photograph of 2019: Loijipu the black rhino and his handler, Salome. Out of all the activities, game drives, community visits, anti poaching / ranger inspections, sundowner drinks, etc in 2019 this was the one single moment that moved me the most. Please meet Loijipu, an orphaned baby black rhino. Loijipu means '2nd' in Samburu. His story is short, since he is only a tad over 2 years of age as of February when I took this photograph. He was abandoned by his mother at only 2 days old in northern Kenya, was rescued and nurtured, moved to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and is now back in his home range in Sera Conservancy and is slowly being reintroduced back into the wild. This photograph illustrated a poignant moment between Salome and Loijipu and Salome's gentle fingers drew my attention. The trust and love between them both is so easy to acknowledge. Salome walks with Loijipu each day, with Loikipu browsing closely ultimately they find places to rest such as this shade tree. The day was already warm and so was I, since we had just finished trekking and photographing black rhinos on foot. There aren't many places in Africa where you can get out on foot with rhinos, especially black rhinos. Sera Conservancy is a community driven affair and they are doing great work for conservation. * #Wildography #worthmorealive #rhino #rhinoconservation #seracommunityconservancy #rhinowalk @saruni.lodges #sarunirhino #ourhornisnotmedicine #conservation #kenya #laikipia #africa #safari #northernrangelandstrust #monochromatic #cute https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ZA1DqA1AJ/?igshid=iw8d9cah0b5q
