Rhuidean thought, because why yes I am rewatching the road to the spear again I'm so glad you asked, it's up for a hugo how exciting!

and it's got me wondering, are there aiel chiefs out there who survive rhuidean with self-inflicted scars, lost eyes, patches of hair torn out, things like that?

Sometimes you’re just living life and then the episode when they go into Rhuidean pops up in your head and what an absolute cinematic masterpiece it was and they canceled the show. They canceled the fucking show.

Interesting how the last 6 notes of the soundtrack of The Road to the Spear are Egwene's theme. It's slow, stripped down, melancholic. She's greeting Rand coming with the dawn but she's saying goodbye. He's not 'her Rand' anymore, 'who just also happens to be the dragon reborn'. He's now the dragon reborn who happens to be just a guy.

As I'm rewatching The Road to the Spear - is there any relevance to Moiraine taking the Sakarnen out of the tree before going into the rings? It seems counterintuitive to 'steal' something from the magic place you still need to do a rite of passage in? When first watching I thought the white orb was what made Rhuidean into what it was and it was necessary to be kept there and otherwise the place would lose it's function. So I was pretty confused.

The only possible answer that just dawned on me is that it is an angreal - could taking it with her make her visions even stronger or clearer?

Ok. I think I figured out (part of) how the rings work.

The first ring shows you all of your possible futures. The second ring shows you all of your possible futures now that you've seen what your future could hold. The third ring iterates again.

There also seem to be some limits, such as not being able to touch Rhuidean (and maybe Sindhol - did Moiraine only experience the after affects, not the whole time of torture?).

Ageless faces with skin that looked as if the wind might tear it. He had heard the years did not touch Aes Sedai. How old must these two be? What had they seen?

Forever stuck on this description. Wouldn't the raising of Rhuidean predate the Oath Rod? Are these women criminals? What is happening here?

I wish someone not Aiel would go through the columns and see important moments in their ancestors' history.

What if Mat went through with Rand? Would he have lived the fall of Manetheren? What would a Tuatha'an with Aiel ancestry see? How would that affect them, hearing the Song? Would the Sea Folk see their origins? What would Tuon learn about damane, sul'dam, and the Royal Family? The potential of this artifact is thoroughly underutilized.

Wait just a minute.

If a woman sees all of her possible futures in the rings, then wouldn't she also experience the columns of Rhuidean? I feel like these are done out of order.
