The oath rod has always bugged me.

Does it only shorten the lifespan of channelers or would it work on anyone? If it works on anyone does that mean criminals who swore on it could die as part of their punishment?

Is there one of the three oaths that shorten lifespan? Is it a result of swearing multiple oaths? The Black Ajah swear their own oaths, in an effort to maintain the ageless effect.

But do they have to also swear 3 or would 1 oath technically do the trick? We can’t use Galina as an example because she has her three dark oaths AND her obedience oath.

Forever stuck on this description. Wouldn't the raising of Rhuidean predate the Oath Rod? Are these women criminals? What is happening here?

Moiraine’s Oath. In thinking about it. Why I think the oath was a wedding commitment/vow. It makes perfect sense from the heart and for practicality for her change the oath. It’s for her eternal survival. If she’d binded herself eternally to the “Amrylin Seat” she would no longer be Moiraine. She’d possibly be a slave to the ‘Seat’ whoever occupied the ‘seat’ for eternity. If she had to bind herself to anyone for eternity, it would be no one other than Siuan. Siuan as much as said that’s what she believed is their fate, with her “in this life or the next” comment. And this is Moiraine’s wish as well so no matter how the wheel turns out their souls again, she would be bound to Siuan. Additionally, it’s my understanding (Not a booker) that using anything in reference to the Amrylin’s past life or humble beginning is a major assault so to the others who may have heard her oath, it could appear that she is insulting the Amrylin on her way to exile. It’s just all so brilliant. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen on TV in a very very long time! I love this scene so much. I’m so in my feeling for these two characters. 🥰🥰🥰 And Maigan’s facial expression could be saying, ‘you just have to go down swinging don’t you?! You ass!’ 😂😂😂. Just my thoughts on my 10 watching of this scene. I’ve just started the “New Spring” so I may have more to say later…😂😂😂

The Oath Rod makes oaths binding but if an Aes Sedai had a complete memory loss would the oaths truly hold?

Here is how the Black Ajah’s Oaths appear in this folder:

“Black Ajah's three oaths (Maybe Change "Until Death Comes for Me" or Until the HOUR OF MY DEATH"

1.      I will work to prepare for the day that the Great Lord of the Dark shall touch the world again, until death and the Great Lord make [sic. take?] me BETTER ON THIS ONE!

2. I will obey all commands given to me in service of the Great Lord of the Dark, until death and the Great Lord take me.

3. I will never betray the Black Ajah, until death and the Great Lord take me.”

Another note in this section is that “No heart contains two members of the ruling council”.
