Why would Rhysand pick so many fights with Tamlin, make “pissing off Tamlin” into “an art form”? Because he’s in love and he just wants to see Tamlin face contort, go red, eyes with that snap and fire that Rhysand loves, the snap and fire that’s just for him. The snap and fire that made Rhysand fall for Tamlin in the first place.

Lights flashed everywhere as Tamlin Hawthorn posed for the press. He was attending the BAFTA awards to represent the Eris Vanserra directed film that came out last year, along with his cast mates Tarquin and Nualla. The two of them had arrived just before him and he could see them if he looked down the carpet. 

Nualla was stunning in a fitted black lace dress that if you squint you could see her matching black undergarments underneath while Tarquin was wearing a silk scale patterned shirt unbuttoned to right above his naval, white pants and a white pleather floor length jacket. 

Tamlin had decided to wear a custom fitted black Balmain suit. The emerald hoops in his ears match his deep green shirt and the rings on his fingers. They'd tamed his blonde waves by braiding them back on the top and sides before tying them back in a bun. It would end up out of the braids by the end of the night but for now it seemed to be a hit with the press and according to his assistant, the fans on his social media he never checked. As flattered as he was, he had no desire to see the thirsty comments left to him by women and men and even less desire to hear about some of his…colleagues.

The crowd suddenly got louder as someone new stepped onto the carpet. The cameras continued to flash at him even while the people holding them peered over to see who had arrived. 

Tamlin didn't need to turn his head to see who it was as he continued to pose; he could feel the air shift as the other man made his way onto the carpet. 

Rhysand Austin. His rival in the acting world. 

No one knows how it started but Tamlin thinks it might have been when he'd gotten his first big role in a film directed by Helion Hemera, beating out many newcomers, seasoned actors and men at the height of their careers, one being Rhysand. The latter had made some disparaging comments about Tamlin to the press and had hinted in earshot of the Paparazzi, that he had earned the role by humoring Helion's little crush in the bedroom. A bold faced lie that led Tamlin to tell the journalist who asked him about it that it sounded like Rhysand was talking from experience. Thus, a rivalry was born.

Rhys was four years older than Tamlin, 28 to his 24 at the time, but they still competed for the same roles, for the same awards and for the love of the fans. They continued to make jabs at each other in the press and trash talk their movies. All without ever having a face to face conversation. 

As far as the public knows, anyways. 

What they don't know is the two men had met shortly after Tamlin's response to Rhys' defamatory comments, in some small dive bar in West LA. A confrontation that had led to an argument, a spilled drink, a surprise heated kiss in the bathroom and ended with them naked in Tamlin's hotel room.

Four months passed between what they had both called a mistake before they met again at the Actor's awards and hooked up again, this time in Rhys' hotel room after the show. From then on, they continued their sordid affair anytime they were at the same award show, premiere or party.

As he smiles at the photographers before moving down the carpet towards the interviewers who would no doubt barely ask about the movie he was in and more about how he feels about his rival being on the same carpet, he can feel the familiar heated gaze on his back and knows tonight won't be any different.

Stupid little headcanon,

Feel like Lucien x Tamlin x Rhysand is just Lucien and Rhysand in a silent competition to be the better boyfriend while Tamlin is just entirely unaware.

In winter and Tamlin forgot a jacket? They are ripping their own off of their backs to hand it to him before the other.

Tamlin off-handedly mentions being hungry? Lucien and Rhysand are both suddenly Michelin star chefs, and they are insisting Tamlin try their food first.

Date night? Lucien wants to take Tamlin to a romantic candle lit dinner, then sit by the fire in the library curled up in each other's arms and read to each other until they fall asleep. Rhysand wants to take Tamlin to a dinner under the moonlight, and lay in the soft grass and watch the stars together.

Sex? No, they work together, they figured out pretty quickly that two is better than one in this situation.
