Review: DJ Fresca - Long Awaited
The funny thing about this album is that unless you get past the first 5-6 tracks you will have never have heard it and thus, you probably never have.
No offence to DJ Fresca, but when looking at it from an afrohouse perspective, the first 5-6 tracks are pretty standard stuff: good production, nice house, nothing special. Then track 7, Nthule Nthini ft. Busi Mhlongo, hits and you are on the floor. From there on out the album is just amazing. It's fresh, clean and punchy with loads of local sounds and strong vocals on nearly every track. For his second album this is a big step forward for the Yfm DJ. Make sure to check out the massive collaborations with Lelethu, Bafana and Monoli Ngcobo, and don't miss out on the guitar riffs on the last track Craddle of Mankind... just euphoric.
“My new album is a variety package fusing different cultures, African sound as well as tribal." is how DJ Fresca describes his latest offering.
The hit single Mayo Mayo really brings in some great traditional vibes with lyrics from Ribatone and some more local guitar flavour. The classic rock solos could have been dropped but hey, that ain't our call. Either way it is scandalous that this video only has 600 views, come'on internet, let's change this!
To end the story short, just buy this album people, skip to track 7 and thank us later. Mayo mayo!
