So i tried a new candy
It’s time once again for SHOJO EATS CHINESE SNACKS! :D
In this episode we’re looking at some Shanghai specialties from the Yu Gardens: rice candy! They look like little petit four cakes but, obviously, the main ingredient in the bases is rice. Go figure.
1. Rambutan flavor rice candy: 6/10 The rice portion of the candy almost has the texture of a solid block of powdered sugar and is almost just as sweet. It’s like sugary chalk. The gummy rambutan pieces were good but with an already hyper-sweet block of rice around it, it was overall less than pleasing.
2. Sweet purple potato rice candy: 8/10 I love purple sweet potato and this tasted great. It had the same texture as the first rice cake but it was less grossly sweet with a chewy center. Pretty tasty.
3. Grape flavor? rice candy: 2/10 I say it with a ? because I opened it and got a HUGE whiff of peanut. I took one bite and it tasted like dried peanut butter powder and I noped that candy right into the garbage. Now, I am not allergic to peanuts nor do I dislike peanut butter but I really don’t like it in most dishes. For me, the smell and taste completely overpowers my pallet/senses and I tend to not eat peanut flavored things for this reason. Also I was a little peeved because I was looking forward to this one since grapes are one of my favorite fruits. I am sad.
4. Strawberry flavor rice candy: 10/10 HECK YEAH. I’m SO glad I left this one for last because it was the BEST one. Super chewy, perfect level of sweetness, and delightfully sticky. The strawberry flavor was on the subtle side and I do wish there was more of it but the rice part more than made up for it. I love me a good chewy, dense treat and this is exactly what I was looking for.
Just for luck

Use a Carrot (Or Rice Candy, Same Thing)
Someone gifted me a giant bag of one of my favorite candies and the first thing I thought to do with it was to eat one every time I finished editing a chapter. Hey, I'm already 9 chapters in! #TomoeAme #riceCandy #AmEditing
This is my all time favorite candy! They even come with super cute stickers
