We had a Mid-Autumn Festival dinner of hot pot, lava buns, xiao long bao, and moon cakes. For a brief moment I was back in China (except for the xiao long bao, those need some work) and I was very happy.
I hope you all have a lovely and safe moon festival. May next year’s festival bring us together again. <3
New Year, Last Post
I’ve been avoiding writing this post for a while. Granted I’ve also been extremely busy since I got back to America with my new job for the mouse and the holidays and what not, but I just didn’t want to write this goodbye. I didn’t want to officially say goodbye to China and I definitely didn’t want to say goodbye to this blog and all of you.
This little side blog of mine has been both a way to let my friends and family know I’m okay overseas and having a nice time, and it’s been a way to share my experiences with the Tumblr community. The fact that there’s over 400 of you still really flatters and impresses me and I do want to express my sincere thanks to you all.
This blog will stay open and (maybe one day) I’ll be reorganizing the tags to make things easier to find. (I’m looking at you ‘shanghai disney’ tag of doom.) I’ll also be more than happy to answer Disney English questions on this blog for anyone interested in applying. And hey, if I ever get to go back to China (or Japan) for any reason, I’ll always have this blog to post all my pictures on.

There were fluttering butterfly wings on the twin buildings across the river.
One last night on the Bund where all the buildings are lit up in urban splendor as people walk, drink, eat, and even dance along the river.
The M50 area of Shanghai is very similar to the 798 District of Beijing. There’s lots and LOTS of cool street art and hipster cafes and galleries and studios and all things artsy and hip to the scene daddy-o.
Finished in 48 minutes! (And that includes all the times I stopped to take pictures of the characters.) My goal was to do it in under an hour so I’m proud of myself. I’m not a runner by any means so it’s a big deal for me.
I legitimately screamed when I saw Loki on stage XD

I got to participate in the 3.5K marathon for the Disney Inspiration Run at Shanghai Disney! There were lots of friends along the way and a few to start off the festivities too.
I got to attend a cooking class all about the prized food of Shanghai: the xiao long bao/soup dumpling!
It’s made with incredibly delicate wrapping and filled with a mixture of typical pork filling and a secret ingredient. You make the soup in advance and chill it to the point where it’s gelatinous. Then, you can cut it into cubes, add it to the filling, and steam to perfection. The hardest part by far is wrapping it like how the chef did. I improved slightly over the course of the class but it’s harder than it looks.
The best part is they gave us the recipe as well. I can’t wait to try and make these at home!
Got to see my favorite show one more time too. It truly is a golden fairytale fanfare.
