But like. Regardless of if small talk is meant to ostracize nd people or not, the effect is the same.

And also im actually not even sure I'd they really meant "nuerodivergent" as in all the people who may fall under the nuerodivergent umbrella or if the were specifically talking about autism and where trying to be 'nice' about it, bc not all nuerodivergent folx struggle with small talk. In fact. The people that I've heard actually having a problem with small talk are usually autistic/audhd, so this feels kinda shady to me already.

But anyway

To tell us , "of course you're bad at small talk, you sound flat and lifeless and it's unsettling to nts" is fucking stupid bc yeah bitch most of us know. Because they tell us. Because they use that to push us away. It's not just us pouting and being like "ugh the weather is so boring I want to talk about the hyperfixation of the week" it's us literally being like. "This ritual makes no sense even when explained and I'd rather not follow a script I have only half the dialog to, just to put people at ease that I'm not a robot in disguise"

The problem isn't that we aren't trying to meet nts halfway, because a lot of us are *made* to, the problem is, a lot of them don't fuckin care. And are going to use it as a bludgeon.

You haven't said anything like. New. When talking about communicating and how nts do it to!! Yeah bitch we know. The problem is we aren't invited to the club. Go harass nts about it instead of another lecture to nds (read: probably autistics) about how small talk is such an important skill to master actually
