The fact that a scene acknowledging a fictional ship as a joke is making people argue that a canon ship is abusive and that Nicole must end up with Yuki to be happy is just sad.
(DISCLAIMER: It’s ok to ship Nicole x Yuki. It’s actually a very cute ship. It’s also ok to headcanon Nicole as a lesbian if you want to. That’s cool. You do you. It’s just not canon and Nicole x Richard is just a satire of dumb dad/angry mom tropes and not supposed to be abusive.)
