Eleventh Dream Day on Judy Henske and Jerry Yester’s “Snowblind”

A cover of Judy Henske and Jerry Yester’s “Snowblind” is featured on the upcoming Eleventh Dream Day album, Works For Tomorrow, which is out July 24! Band members Rick Rizzo and Janet Beveridge Bean discuss the song below: 

Rick: So Janet, why did you want to cover “Snowblind”?

Janet: The first time I heard this song by Judy Henske I jumped up and down ‘til I fell over a coffee table. I replayed it another 10 times after that.

Rick: What specifically do you like about it?

Janet: There’s something about Judy’s voice. It’s tough, it’s in your face, yet has a clear sense of humor.

Rick: Did you have any apprehensions?

Janet: I decided, however much of a bad idea it was to take on a song sung by such a bad-ass vocalist, that I wanted to see if I could feel the way she sounds when she sneers and spits out lines like, “deviled prunes to start and stop her.” I did it, and I’ll say it’s a good feeling.

Rick: Any last words about it?

Janet: Go and find more of her work, starting with “Farewell Aldebaran!”

Meeting in the Kentucky punk rock scene in the early-'80s, Eleventh Dream Day's Rick Rizzo and Antietam's Tara Key forged a friendship that led to a collaboration quite a bit softer than their respective indie rock outfits. We chatted about their recent effort, Double Star, and how the project travels long distances and time (fun fact: our interview mirrored the way they make music). You can listen to/read their story with new music selections here. It aired on WBEZ's "Eight Forty-Eight" program this morning. They play Hideout in Chicago on Saturday; it's also the record release show for Antietam's Tenth Life.
