Loreto: My favorite city so far. Although I do enjoy the small town feel of San Vicente with dirt roads, no banks and only 3 motels, it’s nice being in a bigger city sometimes with more services like street lights. lol. On the last day in Loreto, this man was selling tamales out of a cooler for 15 pesos each (yall thats 75¢ each). He had chicken or pork, no cheese sadly so I opted out. Jeff got 2 and let me have some of the masa with no chicken in it and y’all. IT WAS THE BEST THING I’VE HAD THIS WHOLE TRIP. On our way back up north from Cabo, I’m already thinking about this tamale cooler man and I wanna find this man again and pick out all the chicken. It was THAT tasty. Now I’m on a tamale hunt. I am happiest when... ...I put on my helmet and am going on a ride with friends ...my cat greets me when I come home ...I am at home reading a good book (currently I’m on the last book of Lord of the Rings. Such a good series!) ...when a loved one tells me they miss me and can’t wait to hear/share their life with me ...I see a dog It doesn’t take much for me. Day 13: Oklahoma City, OK to San Jon, NM Today was a good day! Except when this huge F150 wouldn’t let me merge & forced me into the emergency lane. I looked at him & he pointed behind him, indicating to get behind him. You win, your man-child ego is reinforced. I just let him do his thing. I was just lucky there wasn’t a tire or large debris in the emergency lane. That would’ve been really bad. So I’m getting hungry in Amarillo, TX & find this place w/ fancy Mexican popsicles called La Mega Michoacána. I walk in & there are Tamalotes on the menu. WHAT?! I’ve never heard of it, but you can probably figure it out. It’s a tamale topped w/ all the fixings of an elote off the cob. It’s delicious. I start talking to Jose, the owner & he tells me he used to work in construction & now he owns an ice cream/ restaurant business. I ask him that’s such a big difference in jobs, what made you change careers? He said he used to work w/ his body, now he exercises his mind & his hands. Wisdom. Mic dropped. You don’t need a big job title to have business sense. I was getting to the end of my food, but couldn’t finish it. Jose’s to-go plate didn’t fit in my backpack, so he put my leftovers in one of those aguas frescas cups & put a lid on it. Kawawa! Thank you Jose, now I have dinner for tonight 😭 I’ll be sleeping in a city park tonight in New Mexico w/ 20mph winds blowing over my hammock taco tent.
