I'm seeing a post circulating that claims uber / lyft / rideshare is gutting public transit.
That may be true, but public transit is already being gutted. Uber / lyft / rideshare are actually bridging the gap for people who cannot afford to buy a car or take a taxi.
If waiting for transportation can take up to 2 hours, and you cannot predict when the next bus will be because the bus services refuse to follow the schedule or refuse to update when the schedule has changed, people will use another service to get to where they need to go.
If most places you want to go to are not on a bus route and necessitates you walking 30 minutes after getting off the bus on a GOOD day, people will use another service.
If bus drivers are assholes and will kick you off the bus for no apparent reason (usually after you've already paid), won't stop when someone needs to get off or on at bus stops, or become abusive towards you, people will use another service.
Do people think we want to pay $30 out the ass when we can pay $5?
No.
We don't.
Public transportation already sucks. City planning and the current transport system has already failed us. Don't shame people into giving up a service that they need.
