I’m a gay dude, and I saw this and so many of my own biases were unknowingly coming into this. I’m a rideshare driver, but more importantly I’m a gay rideshare driver who was assuming that since my job is ‘working class’ or whatever, that it would be looked down upon by most gay dudes. I thought it was something to be ashamed of, being “just” a rideshare driver. I was self-conscious about it and I would project that self-consciousness onto others and find myself bragging about how nice my job is and how much I made on a particular week, making myself seem (possibly) insufferable trying to “sell them” on a dude doing rideshare. In trying to make myself more likeable, I was being less likeable.
So anyway, I loved this article that showed that nobody surveyed there on what jobs would be dealbreakers mentioned rideshare or gig work at all as a dealbreaker. That really made me happy.
