It was about time to get out of the city again, but this time, for a special occasion. A wedding.

When a colleague gets married, it’s a big deal. Spending 8 hours a day with this person means that you hear more than you should and that you end up being way more involved than you ever bargained for. And by no means am I complaining.

Riebeeck-Kasteel is a beautiful little town, located about 70km from Cape Town. The drive there is effortless and scenic and just close enough to arrive at the destination before the sun disappears below the horizon (in winter of course).

I didn’t doubt for a second that the town would encapsulate a romantic flare. It is cosy, has everything you need – except a pharmacy, as we discovered – and enough to keep your touristy appetite satisfied. It will leave you with a reminiscent heart and a craving to go back for more.

Where to eat: Mama Cucina is an Italian kitchen and was the venue of the Friday evening pre-wedding dinner. The food was to die for and the service spectacular.

Where to stay: We stayed at Shades of Provence, a lovely duplex cottage offering anything your heart desires. With views like Kasteelberg and small town roads, the cottage snuck into my heart and I’ll be sure to return again.

What to do: The main road plays host to countless shops and restaurants. There are two marvellous beer breweries in town, charming cycling tracks along Kasteelberg, wine farms and art galleries. For more info on what to do, click here
