Ok so, you've stated that you ship Dan and Mortiz but can i ask why? Not hate But in the series Mortiz is constantly stating how much he hates Dan So i was just curious why they seem to be so popular?

short answer: man, it’s just one big fanfiction trope. it’s that good ol’ enemies to friends to lovers AU. it just fits, y’know?

moritz is convinced he hates dan and it’s just really funny to me. because it’s obvious he doesn’t actually hate dan. he hates the idea of him. he hates what dan represents. for moritz, dan is the stereotypical dumb jock, who, for some reason, is immensely popular with everybody, but not because he actually deserves it. of course, nobody could actually like dan for who he is - they only like him because of the service he provides: drugs.

it’s pretty clear that moritz actually has no idea who dan actually is. that wouldn’t be such a problem if moritz weren’t moritz. but because moritz is moritz, well, he doesn’t really want to find out who dan actually is.

moritz is content with hating the image he projects onto dan, because, for him, dan isn’t an actual person, an individual. furthermore, for moritz dan is nothing other than an object. more specifically, the object that’s on the receiving end of his hate.

and moritz needs this object, since it’s the only way he can justify his social status. moritz clearly sees himself as the underdog: an underappreciated genius, that is repressed by a society that prefers talentless, mindless puppets, such as dan. 

in the eyes of moritz, dan deserves nothing, because moritz also has nothing. why does dan get everything, when moritz is objectively just better than him? in this reasoning, where moritz sees himself as the victim of an unjustified and senseless phenomenon, he finds fulfillment. he was wronged.

by admitting that dan actually is a nice person with actual talents, that is deserving of love and attention, the same way moritz is, moritz would be giving up his previous world view. 

but not only that: by having to admit that dan is not the root of his suffering and therefore not deserving of his hate, moritz would have to find the root of the problem in himself and actually try to improve.

of course, i don’t want to say that bullying and exclusion are always the victims fault. but in this case it is clear that at least some part of the problem lies with moritz himself, who sees himself as a superior being and looks down upon those who have no problem fitting in with mainstream society (his stereotypical teen classmates e.g.), and therefore excluding himself.

anyway, conclusion: moritz is a “nice guy” and falling in love with dan would force him to confront his own world view and become a better person.

correct me if i'm wrong, but moritz and dan would be the most proud boyfriends.

rn it looks like moritz is jealous of everything dan can do better than him, bc he can't accept that dan is an actual person with talents, that is capable of actually doing things, but as soon as he gets over that internalized homophobia and repressed gay yearning, you know he'd be showing off his boyfriend left and right!

some goes for dan! so proud of his smart boyfriend!! (and moritz would blush every time)
