Okay so that one specifically was a lil funky but I’ll try!
1. I start with laying down the base-colour (or local-colours) it’s important that you make satisfying base colors before you move on to add lighting, if your basecolours don’t look nice adding lighting wont save it 😅
2. Then I added highlight and simple form light to both characters.
3. I then added two lightsources, one which is coming from a fire in front of them and a rimlight behind them to help the characters pop out more from the dark background.
4. I then found out I actually liked the fire light better as blue than orange. I did that by selecting the “Divide” effect under the layer.
5. Lastly I added the rest of the highlights and other details such as lit up hair strands etc. (the embers actually weren’t added until this point 😅)
And then we’re done 🥳 I hope this was a satisfying answer to your question, dear Color-anon <3
Ofc this was much more of a back and forth process irl, but this is a simplified “step by step” version of it :3 I definitely encourage you to just play around and have fun with different light sources and effects, after you’ve put down the basics of your initial idea or at least your base colours <3
I’m considering making more tutorials and posting them on my Kofi, some of them will be a breakdown like this one and others will be more in depth and drawn specifically for the topic.
So if there’s a topic you want me to touch up on just send me an ask and I’ll put it on the list :3
