The ‘jealous of you’ line is kind of a poor translation but I’ll give them a free pass this time because Shipping Fuel lol like yes ordinary marriage candidates should be worried about Riheet working with the princess in close quarters but not in the way this makes me think.

and become king, it doesn’t get any more absolute than that.

This scene with her father was very sweet, but very sad as the king is withering away. I wonder what happened to her mother? I’m guessing she’d still be around if she’d doubted those around her more.

The trusting Scarlet would definitely do Riheet some good, but it may be too little too late.

I wonder if Riheet’s assumption here is actually incorrect? Scarlet is clearly disliked by the nobles who want her out of power, and her mother isn’t present for one reason or another... but even so, it wouldn’t make things even.

Try as she might to treat everyone fairly, Scarlet’s interactions with the dark elves are hampered by ignorance and privilege which Riheet finally makes clear here. Given how clueless everyone seems to be about the atrocities his people suffered, I have a feeling the ‘Orvelian soldiers’ that hunted the dark elves were grunts following a certain noble looking to control everything rather than knights acting on the word of the crown...

And despite doubting his claims, she’s willing to let him cut her down to amend things.

This was just a really nice shot, visually and symbolically, as the naive princess’s soul is pierced with harsh truths.

Finally, he could have stabbed her to death here...

But instead left her sleeping, which is Something. Sure, you could argue he didn’t want to risk her waking up to fight back or alerting any of her comrades, but he doesn’t really have much to lose at this point you know?

Then of course there’s the ending credits, which shows Riheet walking to meet Scarlet resolutely, the two of them exchanging soft smiles as the lyrics sing about gaining a strong determination to move towards the future after coming to know that certain someone, hearts connecting...... ET CETERA...

I mean I’m not expecting them to actually fall in love but if they did that’d be neat >.>
